History:
The Minolta Freedom Autodate SII is extremely rare. Minolta entered the film camera market in the 1980s and transitioned from older designs to "point-and-shoot" - electronic autofocus/autowind cameras. Minolta, and several other manufacturers, found themselves struggling with the low-cost competition, which made it difficult to profit off point-and-shoot cameras due to the cost of producing them. The resolution was implementing offshore production and gradually redesigning successive cameras to reduce cost and maintain profit margins.
